USCIS Changes SMS Number: What You Need to Know

If you receive text message updates from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an important change is coming that you should be aware of.

Effective July 1, 2025, USCIS will no longer send text (SMS) messages from the phone number 468-311 (GOV-311). Instead, they will begin using a new number: 872466 (USAIMM).

Why This Matters

Many immigration applicants and petitioners rely on USCIS text messages for important updates, such as appointment reminders, case status changes, and filing notifications. Recognizing official messages is critical to protecting yourself from scams and ensuring you don’t miss vital information.

Starting July 1, 2025, if you receive a text from 872466 (USAIMM), you can trust that it is coming from USCIS. Messages from the old number (468-311) will stop entirely after this date.

Tips to Stay Safe

  • Update your contacts: Save 872466 (USAIMM) in your phone so you can easily recognize official messages.
  • Stay alert for scams: Remember, USCIS will never ask for personal information, payment, or sensitive data via text message.
  • Check official sources: If you’re unsure whether a message is legitimate, visit the USCIS official website or contact them directly.

This change takes effect July 1, 2025. Be sure to update your records and inform family members, friends, or clients who may be impacted by this update.
